Wednesday we spent much of the day driving. In the late afternoon we crossed out of Texas and into Louisiana...
And that evening we made it to the home of our dear friends, Dean and Judy Fisher. Dean and Judy were fellow volunteer grandparents with us at Big Springs Ranch for Children. They left a few weeks ago, at the same time we did, to be closer to their own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren here in Louisiana. We had to come visit them and check out their beautiful new home.
Their warm hospitality gave us just the rest we needed after the packing frenzy. We've been able to rest, reorganize, visit, soak up some local beauty and delicious food, and be refreshed.
These photos were taken in the beautiful little historic town of Natchitoches, LA. Who would imagine that they pronounce that like "Nack-a-dish" here? But truly...they do! And they've been saying it that way for 300 years. It's been a while since I've been in a town that old...since I was last in St. Augustine, Florida.
So I'm posting my Louisiana entry late tonight, because tomorrow morning we're REALLY going to start our camping trip (after we have the leftover shrimp cheese grits for breakfast!). We're heading for the Natchez Trace Trail, and we plan to camp in several spots along that historic trail. See you down the road!
(That's a plate of shrimp cheese grits there in front of Judy...and I had one as well. Oh, my...I can't tell you how delicious it was!)
